Emmanuel Obiechina

Senior Full-Stack Engineer

I build web products that people rely on, from corporate banking tools to hackathon platforms. I care about the parts users never see: clear code, good tests and changes that are safe to ship.

DevSpot

Where builders join hackathons, ship projects and get discovered by organizers and investors.

  • Next.js
  • TypeScript
  • Python
  • Node.js
  • AWS S3
  • Twilio
Spec sheet
Problem
Hackathon organizers, builders and investors need one place to run events, judge submissions fairly and find talent through shipped work rather than pitches.
What I built
  • AI matching system in Python that pairs builders with hackathons.
  • JudgeBot: an AI judge agent that scores submissions against organizer-defined criteria.
  • Prize-distribution workflows across $370K in deployed capital.
  • Authentication and session redesign used across 11 global hackathons.

Stream2Peer

Co-founder

An open-source, decentralized live-streaming platform built on Livepeer: broadcast to YouTube, Twitch and LinkedIn at once from a single source, straight from the browser.

  • React
  • Vite
  • TypeScript
  • Express
  • MySQL
  • Livepeer
  • pnpm monorepo
Spec sheet
Problem
Creators who stream to several platforms at once depend on paid, closed tools, and every destination has different ingest requirements.
What I built
  • Co-founded and built the platform as one of 3 contributors (40+ GitHub stars, 15 forks).
  • Solved cross-platform stream synchronization with the Livepeer SDK, fanning a single input stream out to destinations with differing ingest requirements.
  • Built the React/Vite frontend and Express/MySQL backend as a pnpm monorepo.
  • Multi-guest support and browser-based streaming with no client downloads.

Spec sheet
Problem
Corporate banking users need approval hierarchies, account management and real-time access to business banking away from the desk, without giving up enterprise-grade security.
What I built
  • Built the React Native app for corporate customers.
  • Transaction initiation and authorization with approval hierarchies.
  • Account management, beneficiary oversight and day-to-day banking operations on mobile.

  • React
  • Maker-checker
  • RBAC
  • Audit logging
  • Session management
Internal staff tool: not publicly accessibleCase study for Corporate Banking Admin Portal
Spec sheet
Problem
Sensitive banking operations need strict accountability: every critical action approved by a second person, every role limited to exactly what it may read or change, and every step audited.
What I built
  • Built the platform single-handedly.
  • Maker-checker authorization for sensitive administrative actions.
  • Granular RBAC across 12+ administrative roles, each with distinct read and write permissions.
  • Single and bulk transaction approvals, comprehensive audit logging and session management.
  • Account security controls: locking, unlocking and flagging; corporate onboarding and staff administration.

Stack & practice

Frontend

Interfaces that are fast, accessible and easy to change.

  • Components that are small, reusable and easy to test
  • State that stays predictable as the app grows
  • Accessibility from the start, not as an afterthought
  • Measure first, then optimise performance
  • Layouts that work on any screen size
  • Semantic HTML that search engines and screen readers understand

Backend & data

APIs, data and the services behind the screen, including AI features in Python.

  • Clear API contracts and consistent error handling
  • Data models designed before the code that uses them
  • Authentication and authorisation done properly
  • Caching only where it earns its place
  • AI features with guardrails and human review

Engineering practice

Testing, review and the habits that keep a codebase healthy.

  • Tests at the right level: unit, integration and end to end
  • Small pull requests and thoughtful code review
  • Continuous integration on every change
  • Refactoring as part of the work, not a separate project
  • Documentation people actually read
  • Sharing knowledge and helping others grow

How I work

I start by understanding the problem before I write code. Most bugs I've fixed came from a requirement nobody fully understood, not from a hard algorithm.

I prefer simple, readable code over clever code. The next person to touch it, often me in six months, should be able to follow it without a walkthrough. Small, focused pull requests make that easier to review and safer to ship.

I write tests for the things that would hurt if they broke, and I let them guide the design rather than bolting them on at the end. Code review is where I learn the most, from giving it as much as receiving it.

I use AI tools day to day, but I treat their output like a pull request from a new teammate: I read every line, check it against the requirement, and I'm the one accountable for what ships.
